The Redwood Library & Athenæum

The Digital Ark has become the digital services provider of choice for the Redwood Library and Athenæum. The initial project encompassed digitizing the entire painting collection on-site. A digital studio was set up at the library so that these fragile and valuable paintings could remain under the supervision of professional fine art handlers. The photographs were posted to a secure website so that library staff could review the images and begin adding any relevant data to the online database. Subsequent projects have comprised the digitization of many special collections including rare design books, a diverse map collection, and five Newport County atlases from 1876 to 1921. These Newport atlases were conserved and placed in a vault, and The Digital Ark produced high-quality giclée reproductions on canvas with a protective UV coating for regular use by patrons.
