Balboa Park Online Collaborative

The Balboa Park Online Collaborative (BPOC) is a multi-part technology-driven initiative designed to bring innovation and collaboration to the 27 museums and non-profit organizations in San Diego's Balboa Park. The Digital Ark (TDAC) is partnering with BPOC on the mission-critical facet of providing these institutions--each with vastly different collections--a mobile cataloging interface that will allow staff to record descriptive information and capture reference images about collection objects with the tap of a screen. TDAC's in-house expertise on this project ranges from developing customized layouts and metadata schema, to optimized workflow design, programming, and web development. TDAC developed its proprietary mobile cataloging system, RICEPadiā„¢, specifically for rapid image capture and cataloging of collections on-site at cultural heritage institutions. RICEpadiā„¢ includes both hardware and software: a hosted database back-end, and iPad Minis/iPod Touches for in-the-field use by each institution. This all adds up to fast, affordable, and forward-thinking cataloging, intelligently designed by a company with a deep understanding of cultural heritage institutions.
